Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

In Year 3, we use the school values to nurture an aspirational, determined, respectful environment which values kindness as a priority. The transition from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 can be quite challenging, but we do all we can to make learning accessible and engaging.

Our curriculum provides children with two PE sessions a week, as well as offering opportunities for expressing their creative side in art and music. We also get 'hands-on' when cooking and creating in DT!

We have some fantastic topics planned, for example: learning about our local coastline in geography; investigating the kingdom of the Ancient Egyptians in history and finding out all about light in science.

I'm sure we will have a year to remember!

Reading in Y3

Reading holds the key to the whole curriculum. In Year 3, we read every day in class and ask you to read every day at home.

We expect that:

  •  you use Oxford Reading Buddy to access books and comprehension activities at your reading level or spend at least 10 minutes reading with an adult at home
  •  you post a record of your child's reading onto Class Dojo. This could be a photograph of a reading journal or a list of what has been read. (Comments would be helpful.)
  • you can post a video of their reading on Class Dojo. (These are extremely useful records of your child's home reading and will gain you a Class Dojo point!)

Our class novels this year will be:

Autumn 1
Autumn 2
Spring 1
Spring 2
Summer 1
Summer 2
The Witches by Roald Dahl

The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo

Stig of the Dump by Clive King
