Seaburn Dene Primary School Marks VE Day 80th Anniversary
On Thursday, 8th May, Seaburn Dene Primary School will come together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day – a pivotal moment in history that marked the end of World War II in Europe.
To help children understand the significance of this momentous occasion, the school has planned a variety of engaging activities for the day:
Whole-School Assembly: Pupils will participate in an assembly that explores the meaning of VE Day and the impact of World War II on Britain and beyond.
Year Group Activities: Each year group will take part in activities tailored to their age group. These include creating commemorative art, designing medals, learning about wartime Britain, and writing letters to local veterans or care home residents as part of the “VE Mail” project.
VE Day-Themed School Dinner: An optional VE Day-themed school dinner will be available to children.
Opportunities to Share Family Stories: Pupils are encouraged to bring in artefacts, photographs, books, or share memories related to their family's experiences of VE Day. This will provide a meaningful link to the past and help children connect with history in a personal way.
While the day is not a non-uniform day, children are welcome to come dressed in uniforms from organisations such as Beavers, Rainbows, Brownies, Scouts, or Boys’/Girls’ Brigade, if they are members.
The school is looking forward to making this a special and memorable day for all pupils as they learn more about VE Day and reflect on the importance of peace, victory, and remembrance.
Thank you to all parents and carers for their support in helping us make this a meaningful day for the children!
