At the centre of our curriculum are our school aims and drivers, and music is a cornerstone to ensuring children are self-assured in the performing arts. At Seaburn Dene, music is accessible to all: we give every child the opportunity to have access to music lessons as part of the main teaching timetable. We also offer extra-curricular singing and instrumental performance opportunities, aiming to increase children’s confidence and support their aspirations. Through high-quality delivery, our vision is to enthuse children and enable every pupil to progress in their performance skills and knowledge of music.
Music is a key part of every child's journey at Seaburn Dene; our youngest children begin to learn rhymes and songs from their very first days in school. They are encouraged to perform these with their peers and also explore music through movements and dance.
Our curriculum map is an overview of our musical activity in timetabled lessons. Each half-term has a theme that is threaded through all year groups and the topic for each class is also listed. Musical instruments learnt in each year group are specified, along with any special events scheduled.
